What happens to your recycling doesn’t have to be a mystery. Here’s what goes on at the MRF:
👷People and equipment sort recyclables into different “material streams.”
🗑️Workers remove contaminants (AKA the stuff that doesn’t belong). This also includes plastic bags full of recyclables—there’s no time to sort the contents while the materials pass the sorting station, so these get trashed.
♻️Recyclable materials are turned into compressed cubes, or “bales,” to be sold on the secondary materials market.
Recycling is happening in MA, but it’s important to recycle the right stuff. Check our Recycling Road Map to see the deets: link in bio
