Shakespeare & Company’s program, launched in the spring of 2024, helps both the company and the community at large to more easily recycle clothing, footwear, bedding, curtains, and other fabrics. The initiative builds on Shakespeare & Company’s existing policy to accept clothing donations year-round. It makes use of many of these items in our costumes, but we can’t use everything. This year, in a program developed by the costume department, a textiles bin from Apparel Impact bin has been located outdoors at the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre on the Shakespeare & Company campus. Any item defined by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection as acceptable textiles may be deposited in the bin (they must be clean and dry and not have any toxic chemicals or bodily fluids).
